Great match today Santa Cruz! We started off strong with an easy win from our number one doubles. Our captain was putting away volleys and Lou was ripping groundstrokes. They finished in less than an hour with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Our number 1 singles, Francesca got off to a slow start but managed to hold on and win the first set 6-4. Made some corrections and was able to win a quicker second set 6-3. Then we ran into some trouble. They changed up their Line up and Sasha had a tough time getting into any sort of rhythm against their number 2 and lost 6-3,6-2. Julia, our number 4 singles played against a fiesty player who refused to quit. Even though Julia won the first set 6-3, Sam came back to win in the 3rd set tiebreak. I thought that was going to be it with the tiebreaks but we like to make things tough! We played ยก2! more match tiebreaks! Our number 2 doubles maddie and Camille lost a heart breaker at 10-7 in after being up a set. But our number 3 singles, Polina, battled it out and even after laing the first set won the match by just 2 points, 10-8 in the third set!! At this point, the overall match was tied 3-3. It all came down to the number 3 doubles team of Arielle and Kira. We debated whether to tell them that this was the deciding match or not. In the end, I felt that they would play better under pressure. And sure enough, as soon as they found out their team was counting on them, they rattled off 6 out of 8 games to win it all!!! Final score was 6-3,6-2. SCHS defeated SVHS 4-3.
